On October 28, 2025, Creaform, a business of AMETEK, announced the HandySCAN 3D|PRO Series, a new addition to its handheld 3D scanner portfolio. The launch highlights the continuing demand for portable, high-resolution 3D measurement tools in reverse engineering and product-development workflows.

The new PRO Series combines a portable scanner with Creaform's Scan-to-CAD Pro software module. The aim is to shorten the path from captured 3D data to usable CAD-ready models, helping engineering teams move more efficiently from physical components to digital design data.
According to Creaform, the series uses 23 blue laser lines and is specified for accuracy up to 0.030 mm. These capabilities reflect a broader market direction: manufacturers increasingly require handheld equipment that can capture complex geometries quickly while retaining the data quality needed for inspection, redesign and documentation.
Why Portable 3D Metrology Matters
Handheld 3D scanners can support quality inspection, mold and casting measurement, automotive component analysis, maintenance and reverse engineering. By bringing the scanner directly to the part, users can collect data on the shop floor or at customer sites without moving large or difficult components to a dedicated measurement room.
For businesses evaluating industrial 3D scanning, key selection factors include accuracy, laser configuration, scanning speed, portability, software compatibility and the ability to handle difficult surfaces or detailed features.
